I don't know about you, but when it comes to TV series, I'm quite picky with what I should dedicate my time into. Personally, my ideal series is a light-hearted flick or something of the polar end, horror. For this post, I wanna share with you some of the shows I've been watching that aren't overrated so please don't expect 13 Reasons Why or Stranger Things even though I love the two a whole lot. Before I ramble on, these shows are ones I personally enjoy as a seventeen-year old and I am by no means a critic or whatsoever. I'm just sharing what I fancy.
001: GIRLBOSS
I finished this Netflix original (thirteen 21-minute episodes) in one go, which is quite rare for me. The plot revolves around a loose telling of Sophia Amoruso's pre-NastyGal success and I talked about it a little bit on my previous Style Steal post. Not gonna lie though, this show has been receiving a lot of hate due to its unrealistic dialogues and arrogant protagonist. But because of those two things, I love it. I love how it empowers me and how it shows me that I am unstoppable (even though I am limited to certain extents). GirlBoss is basically an exaggerated version of Amoruso's rags-to-riches story and people who haven't read her book, #Girlboss, probably haven't grasped the idea that it's meant to be exaggerated. Also, the clothes in here are great because it's set in 2006.
002: Fresh Off The Boat
Asians will probably get the reference the most, but this show has me laughing for ages. The series revolves around a Taiwanese family who moved from Washington to Orlando. My favourite character would definitely be Jessica, the mom of the family. She's your stereotypical asian mom who's a badass. If you're up for a good laugh, this series is the one to binge on. It's currently on its third season, but the good thing about it is that you don't necessarily have to watch it in order or start in the beginning to know what's up.
003: New Girl
This is the series I'm currently binging on and I'm currently in season 3 and loving it. You've probably already heard of it, but it's about a bubbly girl in her 30s, Jessica Day played by Zooey Deschanel, who has three male roommates. It's funny without it being too unrealistic as each character depicts a certain vibe and not a single episode isn't uninteresting for me.
What do you recommend for a good ol' binge watch?x
Sophia Amoruso's book, #GIRLBOSS, has immensely taught me numerous insights including learning how to hustle for myself and for others. Just recently, Netflix released a thirteen-episode series loosely based on Amoruso's E-bay past and it's a lighthearted watch if you ask me. One reason as to why I binge watched the whole season in one night was because of the clothes. In the series, Sophia is seen in vintage-esque outfits including flare pants, silk bombers, and heels like no other.
Today, I decided to subtly channel a little bit of #GirlBoss into my outfit.
001: My rust-coloured, boatneck top is from Uniqlo and it has a ribbed texture to it.
002: Straight jeans with parted ends and fringes is from Mango, but I purchased it off from Zalora. I think it looks pretty badass, it honestly makes me feel like I'm some lead singer of some indie band.
003: I finished the outfit with black heeled-mules from River Island which I also ordered from Zalora.
If ever you are interested on purchasing items from Zalora, I've got a special discount for you! All you need to do is enter the code "ZBAP26GA" upon checkout and you earn 15% off!
Have you seen #GirlBoss and what are your thoughts on the series? x
From blush to contour to highlight, anything from that department will win me over. So when Benefit released their Cheek Parade Palette, I freaked. I heard it sold out in less than 24 hours in the Sephora website. There was so much hype going on about it in the past month that drove me into curiosity. Luckily, my mom AKA all-year-round Santa thought it was a pretty good deal and gave it to me as a gift and I am beyond happy.
The palette consists of 5, I repeat 5, full-sized blushes/bronzers for the price of around 2 products (Php 3400). The value is beyond amazing for a palette like this. It's a definite win if you're curious to try out Benefit's cheek products or if you wanna repurchase one. It includes two new shades: GALifornia and Hoola lite which is essentially a lighter version of the well-loved Hoola bronzer. The other three are Hoola, Dandelion, and Rockateur which are all present in the old Cheekathon palette.
GALifornia is spot-on gorgeous with its sunny pink tone and gold shimmers. The blush emboss reminds me a lot of summer festivals which is quite appropriate since Coachella just passed. Furthermore, I've seen multiple YouTubers promote this blush and I can clearly see as to why people are obsessing over it. It adds a sunkissed effect to my cheeks, which is not that visible on camera, sadly. Nonetheless, it keeps my skin looking au naturale.
Hoola Lite, on the other hand, doesn't fit my skin tone very well, but it could be good for yours. I would say that my skintone is fairly bronzey and Hoola Lite seems like a dark pressed powder rather than a contour/bronzer for me. I feel like with this, it's either a hit or miss and it's definitely a bronzer that you should test out before purchasing. To be dead honest, I don't think I'd be using it as much.
What's your favourite Benefit blush? x
Hand-me-down items are my favourite. I believe that there's nothing better than some style steals from my mom's 90s wardrobe. She had pretty good style that I try to channel into my everyday outfits. Recently, she lended me two bags from when she was in her early 20s.
The first one is this vintage Elle envelope bag I immediately went gaga for. It's a light gray with a brown leather front pocket and could be both a cross body or a shoulder bag. Oddly, the stripe detail on its strap reminds me so much of hippies on cruiser boards. What I like about it most is that it goes super well with loafers and black culottes. Sadly, I could no longer find this in the internet.
The second one is this warm red/orange handbag from United Colors of Benetton. I'm not a massive fan of short straps, but this one I love due to its slightly-tugged wool fabric. I think it's a fashion forward statement, which is again, suitable for my love for anything with a 60s vibe.
What's your favourite hand-me-down?
